Abortion. what's the problem?

(If somebody considers abortion as 'killing' somebody, then the following lines are invalid.)

Somebody wants a boy, but there is a girl inside her womb. Why to bring her into the world when he (they) doesn't want it! Parents make children for themselves. Not for the sake of balancing the number of girls and boys in the world. Social service karne thode na nikle hain.

I watched Bol. The protagonist says 'paal nahi sakte to paida kyun karte ho'. She is so right! Don't give birth to girls if you don't want them. Yours and the girl's lives might be doomed.

Killing children before they are born doesn't seem as a 'bad' thing to me. Whether it be a girl or a boy.

  1. It's not wrong to abort an unwanted child. But its wrong to selectively abort girls because:

    1) In a society with feet deep in patriarchy, sex-based abortions if allowed to continue would only worsen the sick mindset.

    2) Beacause unless we fight and tell everyone why sex-selection is disgraceful, the practice would continue as it is right now, might even worsen.

    3) Because there is absolutely no difference between a girl child and a boy child, and a society that differentiates between the two has weak spot and still needs to develop and grow up.

  2. 1) 'sick mindset'? i am not saying i have that mindset, but i can't call it 'sick'. Proper logic can be produced easily to explain that.

    2) tell me why it is disgraceful.

    3) there is a lot of difference. I am not saying good or bad, i am just saying 'difference'. Parents might want a boy or girl depending upon what they want.

  3. Ok, so, if in future we are able to determine the colour of the child (by genetic means), and start aborting all children who will turn out be black/dark in complexion - by subjective sense, would the practice be considered fair ?

  4. Also, if there are parents who can't raise a girl child properly, they should not be allowed to have children at all - after all, the 'girl' child is a the problem, their parenting is.

  5. 1) Although the decision should depend on the parents, what 'fairness' are you talking about? fairness to 'who' or what?

    2) i couldn't understand your 2nd comment.

  7. Let me put it this way, if a child naturally has black skin and is aborted because of 'that' reason, would be okay to do so ?

Ethically its not fair, and the law is ruled by ethics to a very large extent.

Parents do have the maximum authority of their child, but the child is by no means NOT protected by human rights - these rights just become restricted when the baby is in the womb.

  8. The thing is..one can only wish for a child..what comes with it is a package deal. As this person rightly pointed out would you genetically engineer a 'perfect' kid if given a choice? you might but that's the point. Children aren't a trophy, nor are they a career plan. There are some things in life that cannot be decided and it's better that way. There would be no concept of unconditional love otherwise, which makes us human and differentiates us from other animals. You should watch this movie http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119177/ has a very interesting perspective.

  9. @sparky
i again ask, what is 'fair' in this context?
and if you are considering the child in the womb a 'human being', then my article would be invalid. Until it is not born, i am treating it as an object.

    @blah blah
I wouldn't want to, but somebody might want to engineer such a kid. And I have no argument against this.
If you kill one child in the womb, this wouldn't mean that you'll not unconditionally love the next one. And this gender thing in life can be decided. technology you see.

  10. that's the point 'unconditional' means that no matter what (read gender). If someone aint prepared to be a parent, that is fine..but deciding gender is just cruel.

  11. somebody is pregnant. they want a girl child. of course a girl child and a boy child are different. So the kill the boy inside the womb. (assuming that is not a human being) the next time girl is born. what is the problem? where is the cruelty? who is 'suffering' (assuming that is not a human being)?

  12. I think you have never been with kids. Boys and Girls are pretty much the same. The reason why people kill female foetuses is because they think Ladka bhudape me kaam ayega (in very crude language).

  13. when i said they are different, i meant their whole life.
and what is wrong in that reason? aajkal ladkiyan jyada 'kaam' aati hain budhaape me to shayad they might not want abort the girl child.
this reason might not be liked bu the child but from the parent's perspective, i find nothing wrong. (though i wouldn't 'like' such a parent)

  14. haha..sahi hai..wahi baat hai..abort kisi ko na karo based on gender..law hona to banta hai yaar

  15. Well if you consider the fetus as an object until its born, then your points become valid.

But lets look at a scenario:

    - If the world get filled by men, and only a few women are left, then people can still say that we aren't here to do 'samaj seva' and therefore we'll only have boys because we 'want to' - this argument will always hold, in any case, no matter how special or important it is.

Because you have a choice and you aren't here to please others, you will not be obligated to choose the other option - ever.

  16. i agree.
PS: i won't like a world with less women either.
